Saturday October 17th Nicole and I went down to Jerky’s for Baylock‘s eagerly anticipated CD Release party for “One Good to be Told.” Nicole and I arrived in time to catch half of Kenjamin Christ‘s set and all of Zulu Lulu‘s before Baylock took to the stage.

Fungus Amungus
Friday May 29th I spent a bit too much time trying to round up some troops by prodding either Nicole or Tim to come along to Jerky’s for the evening, to no avail. Friday’s are a great night for shows in that most people don’t have to work in the morning, but it can also generate a hindrance to find accompaniment after a long week of work. I set off downtown solo to catch Eric French & Mr. Hyde open for Fungus Amungus. Arriving a bit late, Eric French was well into their set, I said some quick hellos to some familiar faces, and tried to get a good placement to set up for the evening.

The Scene – May 15th, Jerky’s for a Surprise Three Band Bill
Posted by Sully in Live Review, The Scene on May 30th, 2009
Friday May 15th I worked about an hour late, which isn’t too bad compared to most days, and called Nicole to make sure she still wanted to attend the show at Jerky’s I’d been talking about all week. We were both a little beat from long and stressful work weeks but we thought it best not to be bums and make it out this night. I arrived at Nicole’s place to find she’d already eaten, myself starving I suggested we grab a brew each at the liquor store and hit United BBQ so I could put something in my stomach sooner rather than later. I scarfed my pulled chicken sandwich as she picked at my fries, and we got our butts out of there fast to secure parking downtown before the show. Its come to my attention that my anal retentive punctuality usual results in being early for everything, much was the case this night, Nicole and I arrive at Jerky’s about an hour before the music actually started. I had only known of two bands on the bill for the evening before arrival, but after speaking with Zach Fenner for a bit I was informed the bill consisted of Spank City, Gravity Works, and The Brew. The Scene – To Hell, Jerky’s and back again

Club Hell, April 10, 2009
April 10th, Friday night, time to shake my bones again. Anyone else sick of the amount of rain we’ve gotten this spring? It was a cats and dogs kind of night, m’lady was out of town and my brother had plans elsewhere so I headed out to Providence by my lonesome for a marathon run of bands in a single night. First off I arrived to Club Hell around 8:30pm a bit late to see the start of Forgetful Jones.
Unbeknown to me at Club Hell “Doors at 8pm” means bands start at 8:01, not the first frustrating experiance of the night. Despite my late arrival I was on time to catch the final two songs from the first band visiting from Boston for the night. They were certainly heavier than I would normally seek, and very polished compared to other hard rock acts I’ve seen, lyrics were sung, not screamed, and astoundingly up-beat for harder rock. Their space declares they play rock, funk and fusion, I must have been present for their heavier rock handed ending. I was impressed with their energy and heart in a pretty empty room, Kenyatta Savage was moving around, singing powerfully and making his stage presence known. Jon Holland’s guitar solos were precise and melodic, doing a great job of pulling out of a solo back to rhythm. Matt Athanasiou provided some great fills on the kit and Niles Tooher’s fleet fingers made the floor rumble on bass. After their set I was pleasantly surprised they were going to be playing the Northeastern Quad this Tuesday, I always loved catching the bands on the Quad between classes.
