The Scene – 2010 Catch-up January

“Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans” – John Lennon

I’ve been exceedingly busy and bogged down so far this year, I’ve always kept my YouTube Channel well updated with videos of the shows I’ve caught just as soon as I can edit them into clips, but rarely have I had the time to sit and give proper attention where attention is due. Here’s a blast through of the amazing music I had the opportunity to catch in January.

After the holiday mayhem subsided the first chance I had to venture forth onto The Scene was Saturday January 23rd, I made it a two’fer starting out the night for an early show at Club Hell featuring Vudu Bevy, The Effective Dose and Stalemate:

Vudu Bevy had an interesting set, enjoyed it quite a bit, and while I found it reminiscent of The Doors (one of the most over rated bands in history) I still enjoyed a number of their songs, especially with the hints of classic rock and folk in their tones. I’d suggest checking them out at AS220 on June 5th, that is if you like good shows!

Considering myself an ED-head I was super excited to see the boys from Boston gig out in Providence, especially rocking two songs I’d yet to hear! I was more than a bit disappointed they only had chance to melt faces for about thirty minutes, but the crowd certainly was getting into the set and had about 5 people ask me to reiterate their myspace page for them after all was said and done. May 18th begins The Effective Dose’s Tuesday residency at The Baseball Tavern on Boylston. If you are in and around Fenway Park on Tuesdays you really need to catch these guys rock out!

Stalemate was next to the stage, and with other shows to catch I had opportunity to stay for only three songs. Their sound was really rocky, poppy and really catchy, the energy put forth and well rehearsed stage presence made me long for more as I packed up my gear and headed out into some Crosstown Traffic to make my way to The Box for Gravity Works.

Johnny Lingo opened the show solo, then took to the ivories for Gravity Works as they rocked it to a packed house with a set chock full of their high energy originals spiced with a few covers from the likes of Sublime, Lettuce and Frank Zappa. Always a great show and a kind and welcoming fan base, Gravity Works will be melting faces and taking names again at The Box, May 15th.
