Video Recap: July 10th 2014 featuring Viva La Hop

I happened to be running all over town handling some errands and such this Thursday evening and decided to stop by my home away from home, The Spot Underground, on my way home.  Viva La Hop was in town bringing their brand of funky hip-hop jazz, I stayed for a few songs and to visit a few friends:

Video Recap: June 20th 2014 featuring The Brother Kite

M’lady and I ventured over to Waterplace Park this fine Friday evening to catch part of the WBRU summer concert series.  We arrived early enough to catch a good bit of The Brother Kite‘s opening set, but late enough still I could not secure a good vantage point for my video camera and tripod.  It was an incredible night and an incredible crowd, the headliner was Phantogram, unfortunately for me,  the crowd was so dense I couldn’t get a clear shot of the stage during their performance:

Photo Feature: October 13th 2014 The PRONK Parade

The Providence Honk Festival, affectionately refereed to as PRONK, is a relatively new annual tradition on Indigenous People’s Day (formerly referred to as Columbus day).  The festival invites talented marching bands from across the nation, in a celebration of social consciousness and music, to our fair city.  I finally had the opportunity to catch a bit of PRONK this year and enjoyed the eclectic ‘People’s Parade’ tremendously. I hope you enjoy the photos.

Video Recap: June 7th 2014 featuring Little Compton Band, Jimkata, and Viral Sound

This fine Saturday night I ventured to The Spot Underground solo to catch a great bill of high energy jammy bands.  Starting the evening, The Little Compton Band too to the Den Stage and set fire to an hour long set:

The party moved to the main stage for Jimkata, who provided a great set. Their sound is a bit indie electronica jam and seemed a bit of a departure from what you normally hear at The Spot:

Video Recap: June 6th 2014 Tracie and Bill at The Bucket

If you’ve been following the blog for a while you know I rarely miss a Sound Check Series at The Bucket Brewery, this Friday evening was no different.  I high tailed it over to Pawtucket right after work to catch a bit more of  a laid back folky night at The Bucket featuring Tracie Potochnick and Bill Michalski.  Both performers sat in with each other during their sets and even invited Jacob Haller on stage to perform one of his originals with Tracie.  A fine time was had by all!

Photo Feature: October 3rd 2014 Viral Sound’s Album Release

Friday October 3rd kicked off the two night Album release event for Viral Sound at The Spot Underground.  Viral’s been on the scene for a solid 5 years and ‘Exposure’ was their first studio release (part 1 of 3 actually), recorded by Matt Tarpy of Castle Entertainment Studios. The night started with local favorites Trails and bounced to the Den Stage for VII holding down the in between set.

Video Recap: May 31st 2014 Galactic Alliance, Funky Dawgz Brass Band and Fungus Amungus

A Saturday night adventure to The Spot Underground this time around, which included three acts I hadn’t seen in quite some time.  Galactic Alliance started the night on the Den Stage and played a quick 40 minute set while the crowd was arriving and the main stage was being prepped:

The Funky Dawgz Brass Band took to the Main Stage with horns-a-blaring and played a long set and invited Jarrod Valenti to sit in on sax for a few:
