The Scene – Local Flavors Drops and SEXCoffee CD Release
Posted by Sully in CD Release, Live Review, The Scene on November 21st, 2009
Saturday September 5th I woke surprisingly early, especially after arriving back from Ricky’s surprise show so late. Wiping the slumber from my eyes I posted the first installment of Local Flavors and headed out to Providence for breakfast with m’lady and a furious day of promotion. Arriving on Thayer Street at about Noon I canvased the area talking about local music and handing out fliers. After about 5 hours Zach Fenner joined me with an acoustic to make the remainder of the promo time fly by. Thanks Zach! Read the rest of this entry »
The Scene – Phoenix Best Music Poll Winners at Lupo’s

Wednesday August 12th I heard last minute about an early show happening at Lupo’s from Johnny Lingo. The Rustic Overtones were scheduled to appear, utilizing three local openers, all of whom had just won an accolade in The Providence Phoenix’s annual Best Music Poll, The Johnny Lingo Band, winner of Best Male Vocalist, SEXCoffee, Breakthrough Act of the Year, and The ‘mericans, listed as the Best Music Poll Winner. An unplanned night on the town during the work week, I made it a relatively short stay and took off before the headliner began.

Thursday May 7th I was right back down on Westminster again, this time at the Providence Black Repertory Company for the SEXCoffee and Fungus Amungus show. Providence Sound Sessions is a week long, genre-defying music festival hosted at various venues throughout the city, during the preceding months they hold rounds of voting in person and on line to determine the festival’s lineup for the year. This provided me a great opportunity to check out Fungus Amungus, whom I’ve heard so much about, as well as SEXCoffee, a band of whom I’d heard very little. Working a bit later than usual for the day, I was rather rushed in getting ready and heading downtown, nary a moment to eat. Once I’d secured parking and meandered my way towards the Black Rep, cigarette in hand, I realized my only dining option before my destination would be Tazza Cafe. Read the rest of this entry »
